In addition to these items, you should also consider purchasing an equipment bag and some “soakers” or rubber skate guards to protect your blades.

The instructors recommend that you have all of your equipment by the first class meeting so that you are safely equipped and so that you can get used to skating in your gear. However, if you are unable to purchase all of your equipment by the first class meeting, you will be allowed to skate in the items denoted with an asterisk until the 3rd Class Meeting at the latest. The PHA has secured equipment packages and discounts for all PHA Beginner Session participants from the Pro Shop in the Ice Center of San Mateo rink. This equipment package offers a tremendous discount that significantly reduces the cost of purchasing your gear.
